Good Practice Guide

Good to know

Some ingredients, even natural, can constitute a risk of allergy or irritation for sensitive people. Prior to the use of a cosmetic product is recommended to test it on inner elbow crease in order to check the occurrence of unpleasant reactions ( itching, redness).

Some phases of cosmetic compositions require heating, so, precautions must be taken to avoid burns. Certain processes involve the use of alcohol or flammable ingredients, handle them carefully. When preparing recipes that include ingredients powders is recommended to wear a mask and safety glasses. When handling concentrated essences and various ingredients may come into contact with the skin is recommended to wear gloves. In case of contact with eyes any ingredient or preparation, rinse with water. If irritation or persistent unpleasant symptoms, seek medical attention.

From the microbiological point of view, besides the optimum conservation and preservation of cosmetic compositions, is very important their preparation to be in a hygienic environment with clean utensils. All cosmetic compositions containing water are susceptible to microbiological contamination, so they should be preserved is essential to maintain hygiene in the manufacturing procedure:

  • wash your hands very well before preparation
  • minimize the contact of the ingredients with the hands
  • clean and disinfect the work surface
  • clean and disinfect the tools and recipients before use

How to disinfect the tool

All utensils must be disinfected shortly before use. First wash with soapy water , rinse , drain and leave to dry. Then wipe with a paper towel or cloth soaked in alcohol 70 °. Put the utensils on a clean towel until dry. Depending on the shape utensils, alcohol can be sprayed. It is recommended to wear gloves that protect hands from alcohol especially when disinfected several utensils.

Another possibility to disinfect is by boiling. In a saucepan put water and add 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar. In this way you can only disinfect utensils and containers that are resistant to heat. On the bottom pan is placed a kitchen towel . Boiling is indicated to last 10-15 minutes. The operation is performed shortly before using utensils.

How to disinfect containers

Both new or reused containers will be washed with soapy water and then rinsed with cold water and will sit to dry on a paper towel or cloth. After drying wipe with a napkin soaked in alcohol 70 °. All utensils and disinfected containers should be used on the same day, as soon as possible after disinfection.

Ingredients manipulation

The ingredients must be dispensed by pouring, dripping or sampling using sanitized utensils ( spoons, droppers , syringes ). All operations must be done with clean hands.

Storage and use

Both the oil and aqueous compositions should avoid stored in extreme heat, direct sunlight and humid. They store well in the cool environment, this means below 25 ° C, in conditions that are hygienically prepared and preserved accordingly. Most cosmetics can be refrigerated. Compositions and ingredients susceptible to oxidation and microbiological pollution should be refrigerated.

The compositions kept in bottles “contactless ” ( spray , atomizer , pump … ) are thus unable to come into contact with hands or bottles type “airless” not coming into any contact with the air are fairly well protected from microbiological contamination and oxidation. During the use of compositions containing water and are kept in containers jar type is indicated using a spatula. Oily cosmetic compositions may be taken only with clean hands thus are not susceptible to microorganisms.

We recommend labeling of preparations with name, expiration date and composition. Do not store the products away from children.

Essential oils

Essential oils are concentrated compositions that may cause serious harm if not used properly. Pure essential oils do not apply on the skin. Read more about the safe use of essential oils <<here>>.

Vegetable oils

Vegetable oils can be applied to the skin as is, with a few exceptions. These are considered and carrier oils ( base ) for a range of assets including cosmetics and essential oils,  for example vegetable oils or CO2 extracts. Macerated are oily extracts of plants, fruits, flowers or parts of plants that fat-soluble active ingredients. Special vegetable oils – which are not considered carriers – are concentrated, they have rich composition and usually not used undiluted to the skin. Butters pure vegetable can be used for the skin as it is or may be included as ingredients in the formulation of creams, ointments, lard body and various cosmetic compositions with essential oils, vitamins, cosmetics, herbal extracts, floral waters, vegetable oils and cosmetic active.
